Well, well, well. This age-old question raises its ugly head once more. Do you need two spaces after a period, or any other end of a sentence punctuation?
This is going to be a short and sweet post. The answer is no, period. (no pun intended.)
Please don’t add that extra space. For those of us who used an IBM Typewriter way back in our college days, the two spaces after a period were a must. Not anymore. It was originally thought that the extra space was needed for readability. Now, typesetters ask that the writer use only one space, or the typesetter will need to go through the written work and remove the extra space with a fee to the writer. This alone should be enough incentive to use one space.
My high school typing teacher, Mr. Fall, would be sadly disappointed with this new rule. I can still see the red circles on my papers when only one space was visible.
But…look closely friends. You may see that extra space wiggle its way back into a post now and then.
